📄 Vertex (VoIP/Ethernet) Setup

Vertex Quick-Start Guide

What's in the Box

  • Vertex unit (2, 4, or 8 channel)
  • 9V DC power adapter
  • 3x Ethernet patch cables (Cat5e)
  • Quick-start insert

Rear-Panel Ports

  • Toward Gateway — Connects to ISP modem/router (upstream)
  • To Phones — Connects to VoIP phone switch (downstream)
  • Management — Connects to data network (same subnet as POS)
  • Power — 9V DC barrel jack

LED Indicators

  • Power — Solid amber = operational
  • VoIP Bridge 1 — Solid amber = 'Toward Gateway' linked
  • VoIP Bridge 2 — Solid amber = 'To Phones' linked
  • All 3 amber LEDs must be solid ON before proceeding

Setup Steps

  1. Connect cables (power OFF): Toward Gateway to router, To Phones to phone switch, Management to data switch
  2. Power on and verify all 3 amber LEDs are solid
  3. Set DIP switches: SW1=UP, SW2=DOWN, SW3=UP, SW4=UP (default)
  4. Configure via Vertex Configuration Tool or phone dialing (*00 to hear IP)
  5. Configure POS to listen on UDP port 3520
  6. Place a test call from a cell phone to verify

Important Notes

  • Vertex requires unencrypted SIP traffic — if VoIP uses TLS/SRTP, deploy an ATA adapter or EdgeMarc SBC
  • The Management port must be on the same subnet as the POS computer
  • Use the Vertex Configuration Tool (VCT) for advanced settings and firmware updates
